I’m a few days late, but happy Veterans Day to all my followers.
I’m going to be brutally honest in this post, and some of you might not agree with me or like what I have to say, but here goes.
Personally, I don’t care much for Veterans Day, the norwegian one on the 8th of May included, and I’m uncomfortable as hell when someone thanks me for my service. Veteran appreciation is important and all, but I don’t feel most of us deserve all this praise and I feel some veterans are taking it too far and taking advantage of their deployments.
I didn’t decide I was going to fight the Taliban or the Islamic State because I wanted to serve «God and country» and all that crap. Sure, fighting the good fight and possibly helping out people in need was an important aspect of it. But that wasn’t my main motivation and I knew that the War on Terror wasn’t depending on my contribution.
Honestly... I just wanted to hunt some bad dudes, that’s all.
I once read that there’s three types of men out there. Lovers, fighters, killers. I’m definetly a killer, and I’m not so sure I deserve your praise for that. This may not be politically correct to say, but I refuse to believe I’m the only veteran who feels this way.
My generation grew up watching Stallone and Schwarzenegger fucking shit up in the jungel, and we went on to killing terrorists in Counter-Strike and Call of Duty. So when we were old enough and had the chance to join our armed forces and deploy, so we could play real life Call of Duty, maybe our intentions wasn’t so pure as you might think?
Don’t get me wrong. The world need men like us, our security and way of life is depending on it. But for my part, you can save your respect and praise for the veterans who didn’t make it home in one piece, physically or mentally, and those who didn’t make it home at all.
I’m just a war junkie currently on rehab, feeling like a fraud when someone thanks me for my service.

Date: 2018-11-20 07:21 pm (UTC)Нет, он не асоциальный. Если по простому, то ему интересен процесс, а не конечная цель, а это уже показатель наличия проблемы.

Date: 2018-11-20 08:50 pm (UTC)
